Short Post on Heat the Pig Liver

I recently came across something interesting that seemed worth sharing, so here you go.

I found some of the storyboarding that was done for episode 12 of the anime, namely the anime original sequence that took place after Jess confessed why Mister Pig was brought over to her world.  It's really good!  Just watching this as is with the BGM adds a lot to the bittersweet feeling, and if these scenes were actually animated when the episode aired, I might not have been miffed by how their confession of love to each other was pushed to a separate scene instead of at the emotional climax it was supposed to happen at.  I especially like how the capital gave off a more lively feel, and how there was that small bit of focus at the end with there being a lot of couples around the place (read the novel for more insight on this!).

My only hope at this point is that No. 9 went back and reanimated these moments in the Blu-ray/DVD release.  I suppose this will either be answered or dashed once I receive vol 5, as that will contain the infamous episode 9...

Dengeki Bunko held a few category votes for their 30th anniversary and their results were recently posted...

Heat the Pig Liver Volume n & Lumiere Released

Today marks the true final novel volume of Heat the Pig Liver.  And with it, Asagi-sensei has also released an artbook containing many of the illustrations drawn for the series.  Go and order your copy if you haven't already!

I had a lot of fun with this series these past 4 years, and really enjoyed its combination of mystery and humor.  It's sad to see it finish, and I really don't want it to be over so soon, but it's time to accept reality.

I look forward to reading what story Takuma-sensei comes up with in the future.

To celebrate the completion of Heat the Pig Liver, three short stories written for the anime + the first chapter of Takuma-sensei's next novel will be posted over the next few days!  You can read more about it here.

Happy Birthday Mister Pig! (10/16)

Happy Birthday Mister Scrawny Four-Eyed Shitty Virgin!

Not much news to talk about, but I will mention that the anime website appears to have recently updated its books promotion page to finally include the latest light novel volume (vol 8), and the manga adaptation.

Anyway, here's something Asagi-sensei drew as part of the anime's artist support promotion tweets recently.

Know the Pig Trivia #3

Here's the final pig trivia, which was released alongside the anime pre-screening event.  We got a bunch of other news as well which I'll be covering in this post; and be sure to let me know if I've missed anything.

Trivia - Pigs are smart.

Don't forget to check out this trivia's video with Matsuoka's narration.

Heat the Pig Liver Licensed by J-Novel Club!

Haha, what a way to mark the 1 year anniversary of this blog.

J-Novel Club just announced that they've licensed Heat the Pig Liver!

It's a bit disappointing that they didn't keep the eye-catching title of "Heat the Pig Liver," and instead stuck with the honestly very generic-sounding title of "ButaReba - The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig-" that the anime is also being marketed with.  That being said, congratulations!

And now that the series has been licensed, all things must come to an end.  I have a little bit of volume 4 that I would like to post as I don't want the small bit of work I've done to go to waste, but after that, I will stop posting future volume translations.  As for the existing translation posts, my plan is to leave chapter 1 for each volume as preview (similar to what's available for preview for the original novels on digital stores), and take down the other chapters as the anime covers them (with everything else removed after the anime finishes airing).

Thank you all for having stuck around for the past year, and make sure to pick up the official English release when it does come out!

11/18 Edit Update:

Seems like JNC got the rights to the manga serialization as well, so you'll be able to enjoy Minami-sensei's art adaptation too!

Heat the Pig Liver Anime PV2

Aniplex Online Fest 2023 dropped a bunch of new content for the upcoming Heat the Pig Liver anime, including the second promotional video!

  • The OP is 「私が笑う理由は」 (The Reason I Smile is) sung by ASCA
  • The ED is 「ひとりじゃないよ」 (I'm not Alone) sung by Myuk
  • Brace's VA will be 能登麻美子 (Noto Mamiko)
  • Episode 1 will air on October 7

One thing I had been worried about which this PV addressed is that I wasn't sure whether they would keep Jess' outfit change that she wore only in volume 1, especially given how they simplified a lot of the characters' outfit textures (Celes was especially noticeable given that her dress no longer had any patterns on it and was just plain brown), but there were a couple frames like at 1:05 which showed it off, so I'm glad that wasn't changed.

The livestream has been privatized.
You can check out the English subtitle livestream from Aniplex here for those that want to see the entire segment (some of the translations are a bit off for the PV, but that's because the Japanese lines are taken out of context): https://www.youtube.com/live/g7ytgD5_LA4?si=X5-kfXqUzLi0FH8R&t=9995

They also released one more key visual after airing the second PV (the two subtitle lines have been translated below).

Dengeki Comics NEXT is also celebrating their 10th anniversary, and have put many of their vol 1 manga on sale for 11 yen... including volume 1 of Heat the Pig Liver's manga.  Now's a good chance to pick it up if you've been meaning to take a look at it.

Don't forget to mark 7/15 on your calendar, as Heat the Pig Liver will have a 1 hour ABEMA program around 7 PM.

And here's something Asagi-sensei posted on March 10 2020 to promote the very first volume of Heat the Pig Liver.  This is where it all started.

It's been a while since I last posted about Heat the Pig Liver, hasn't it.  At least a month and a half, or even longer depending on which post you want to count.  Today, I bring you some new promotional material from the anime's twitter account!

First, let's start with the new key visual.

Updated V1's Illustrations & Character Pages

Hi everyone!  While waiting for news updates on the upcoming anime, I decided to try my hands at cleaning up volume 1's illustrations to see how they would look.  I think they turned out okay, so I've updated the original v1 illustration page with them (don't worry, both versions will be there so you'll be able to judge my poor redrawing skills).  And that's about it, thanks for stopping by.

P.S. Don't expect me to do the same for any other volume.  I don't have anywhere near the skills to be able to do that.  This was a one time deal, you got that?

Anime Japan 2023 + Short Bonus

Looks like Heat the Pig Liver will be receiving a photo boot area for Anime Japan 2023.  I don't expect there to be any news, but you never know.  Just wanted to share this because they said it's okay to ride Mister Pig!  We all know what that means...

The sign on the right says: "If the weight is over 100kg, there's a risk of damaging him, so please refrain from having more than one person riding him at a time."

Also, I figured I could use this chance to also mention this real quick since all the 2021 LN releases have been translated...

Dengeki Bunko is celebrating its 30th anniversary!  You can find further details here: https://dengekibunko.jp/30th

They'll also be hosting a 30th anniversary exhibition at Tokorozawa Sakura Town this Fall.

Furthermore, a lottery campaign will be held for autograph sessions with the following series' authors & illustrators (60 winners per series):

Lastly, they had a new mascot created on twitter @Denchan_30th, and as you can tell by her character design, she was drawn by Tohsaka Asagi sensei!

Heat the Pig Liver V3 Finished!

Yahallo!

This should be my seventh blog update?  After finishing up volume 2, I felt the need to follow up with with a quick volume 3 translation.  Knowing how the story was going to develop this volume, I didn't want to leave you all hanging.

For those who haven't finished vol 3 yet, please read that before reading any further as I'd like to talk about my thoughts on it, mainly back when I first read it

First Blog Update of 2023

Hey there, Hayane here to bring you an update on volume 3.

Obsessed?  What do you mean I'm obsessed?  I swear, I can stop translating when I want to!

Translations should start being posted some time between the middle and end of this month.  Look forward to it, and see you soon.

Heat the Pig Liver V2 Finished!

Hello again (for the fifth blog update), Hayane here.

I know I said in my previous posts after finishing volume 1 that I was going to take a break, but after hearing about Sakai Takuma's new novel, and knowing Pig Liver vol 7 was about to come out soon, I got the motivation to finish translating vol 2 before the end of the year.  I might still post some non-vol 3 stuff, like short stories, if I'm able to get my hands on them, but I'll have to see if I can bounce back to work on vol 3 as quickly as I did this time.  Until then, you'll just have to make do with the vol 3 cover blurb translation on the main translation page...

As for my thoughts on translating vol 2, I really enjoyed the callbacks to events that had occured in vol 1, especially when they were used to showcase Jess' growth; and of course, my personal highlights were every time Mister Pig and Jess shared a moment with each other during the period of time Jess couldn't remember him.  The world building is great, and I believe it only gets more interesting from here on out.
